Selenite – the Moon Crystal

Selenite – the Moon Crystal

Several weeks ago  i went into a furniture store and they had the most amazing, huge selenite (Satin Spar) wand for sale. It was a most unlikely thing to find in this store. Needless to say this milky white gem came home with me.

Selenite is a very soft stone with a Mohs hardness of 2 so its not a very durable stone, and is easily scratched or damaged however its is one every energy healer should have in her tool box. As a thermal conductor it is often warmer to the touch.

Selenite is a crystalized form of the mineral gypsum and its very abundant, mostly found in Australia, Greece, Mexico and the USA. Because of its soft nature it is often used to bring light into home decor. The Basilica Santa Sabina in Rome, has white window panes made entirely from Selenite. Because of its soft nature and transparent beauty you can readily find Selenite carved into hearts, wands, and globes. It is also available as towers as a candle holder or a light.  In Chihuahua, Mexico the “Cave of the Crystals” located in the Naica Mines, houses some of the largest Selenite crystal formations. One is over 39 feet and weights over 55 tons.

Selenite is a cleansing stone and is often used to cleanse other stones. In my case, the selenite wand I spoke about has been placed in my crystal cabinet to keep all my other stones cleansed and ready to use. It is often stated that Selenite never needs cleansing itself but i personally like to cleanse it every once in awhile just to keep it vibrant. Since it is a soft stone never put this one in water to cleanse. My prefered method is a full moon cleansing. It is said that it is a strong enough to clean even crystal quartz.

Its an angelic stone and with it you can call upon the angels for protection. Placed around all corners of your home, Selenite can protect your home and create a place of calm and peace. In my pottery studio i have used Selenite to grid the space and people all the time tell me what a calm, nurturing space it is.

When you are wanting to make a connection to the spiritual realm, like angels, guides, ancestors  and our higher self, place selenite all around you to assist. Since Selenite is the color of the moon, and its named after Selene, the goddess lf the moon, it will help you tap into moon energy. Its energy is that of feminine goddess energy.

Since it is a cleansing stone, Selenite can be used to cleanse your energy chakras as well as you aura. Wands made of Selenite are often used in Magic or to direct energy.

Other healing properties of this shimmering, high vibrational stone are: connecting to the crown or higher crown chakras, mental awareness, intuition. Its useful for meditation and scrying.

Traveling with Reiki and Crystals

Traveling with Reiki and Crystals

Traveling can be an absolute joy but it can also be filled with anxiety and anxiousness. Whether you are traveling by car, train or airplane make it a less stressful, safer trip with the use of Reiki and Crystals, As I write this I am in Utah visiting with my son and his beautiful family. The trip was anticipated with joy as we would be able to spend 3 wonderful days playing with our two youngest grandchildren. We were flying out of a small airport in Fort Smith Arkansas, 1/2 hour from our home, changing planes in Dallas and arriving in Salt Lake City by 7:30 that evening. The schedule was perfect, no rushing, hustling, standing in lines. We had a decent layover in Dallas, enough time to comfortably find our next gate and then have a leisurely lunch before the final leg of our journey.

As I always have Crystals on me, for this trip I chose several that would help with the journey.

  • Malachite– Malachite is the perfect crystal for traveling especially when traveling by plane or car because it is a protective stone.  Rumor has it that malachite will crumble if there is danger ahead so it works well as a warning signal. It also helps if you are afraid of flying, which I am not, but many are. It also helps with jet lag.

  • Moonstone– Moonstone is known as a stone for travelers offering protection as well as helping with jet lag. I wore my moonstone and garnet ring just for this reason.

  • Amethyst– because of its calm nature having a piece of Amethyst with you can help overcome anxiety. Also a protective stone Amethyst can also help with being flexible with changes which often occur during travel. You just never know what’s going to happen. I carried a chevron Amethyst in my pocket as a worry stone and when things got crazy in our trip I relied on it heavy.
There are other stones that will be perfect for traveling and they are beautifully outlined on OriginStones.com. I had several other stones they recommended but I just chose a few since I wear most of my crystals in a medicine bag (which, by the way, I had to remove and place in a bin during security check). I always have a tumbled Quartz crystal in my bag to enhance the other crystals. My natural Citrine is there to keep whatever is in my bag energetically cleansed and black tourmaline as an overall protective stone.

Reiki comes through for me.

On this particular flight there were delays from the very beginning which could have been very anxiety creating. Our first flight was delayed 1 1/2 hours which was all the time we had to make our next flight. I had never missed a flight before so I had no idea how to deal with the situation so I started sending Reiki. As we finally boarded our first flight the online schedule still showed our connecting flight on time. We would not be getting into the airport to connect with it in time. As I sat in my seat I began sending Reiki.  I used the Power symbol to send Reiki to the overall situation, then the Emotional symbol for myself to keep me calm. I sent Reiki to the future with the long distance symbol that we would be able to get something resolved. Then I started visualizing. I visualized us getting on the next flight, our original flight. I visualized us seeing our family and grandkids as we arrived at their airport on time. I saw us giving big bear hugs, finding our luggage and driving to their home. While we were in the air I continued to check flight status in case our connecting plane was delayed, just long enough for us to reach the gate. What I found instead was that we had automatically been booked on the next flight out of Dallas, at 7:30. (Big shout out to American Airlines for this). Ok, I thought, I could live with that! A slight delay but it would still get us into Salt Lake City at a reasonable time. We did not hurry as we deplaned because we had a few hours to kill before boarding the new flight. As we were walking out I happened to glance up at the flight board and saw that our original flight was delayed by 20 minutes! Enough time for us to make it. Dallas Airport is big and can be confusing but they have an amazing and fast tram system. We were able to get on our original flight and all our luggage was there waiting for us when we arrived. It turned out exactly how I envisioned it. I sometimes feel that I have magic at my fingertips when I am able to use Crystals, Reiki and Law of Attraction for my highest and greatest good. It never ceases to amaze me when using these gifts gives me personally such great rewards. It reminds me that we are able to create out our life by sending out the highest and best vibrations. The Universe is listening. What are you saying to it?
Organize my Crystals

Organize my Crystals

All week long it has been absolutely gorgeous outside. The sort of days that you know you would spend the day basking in the sun but the air was cool enough to keep you from sweating. Even though I have a dream life and get to spend my days making pottery, I still feel like I need to be in the studio during the day and not lazying around. That is something I have never been good at.

So I look forward to Saturdays. But this Saturday the weather played a cruel trick on all of us Monday thru Friday-ers, and its cold. Bleck.

So I decided to spend the day and organize my crystals (after laundry and house cleaning of course!)

Most of my Crystals were stored in a plastic craft container, all hodgepodge with very little organization and basically no way to remember what they were. So first I had to identify them, then photographed them and then I put them into small bags with their names written on the outside.

I use two books and google to help me identify and organize the crystals I have.

I found crystals I didn’t know I had and have lost crystals I know I have but have no idea where they went off too.

Cinnabrite

This Cinnabrite was in my catalog but nowhere to be found. Oh where oh where are you, dear Cinnabrite.

Maybe they will come home someday!

Even though I put them all into bags I know me well enough to realize that once a stone comes out of that bag, I may not remember what it was so I decided that I needed a backup and that was done in a free program called Evernote. I have been using Evernote forever and since it has an app for Android, IPad and Windows, it is a perfect way for me to stay organized regardless of what device I was using. It syncs notes between these platforms!

For the crystals, I used my phone because it is easy to take a picture, adjust it (I use Snapseed), and then share it to Evernote.

This is what my notebook in Evernote looks like. On the left are all my entries. I took pictures of each stone individually and cropped it pretty tight so I would see it nice and bold like this. The giant picture on the right is a “Dalmation Jasper”. I have never heard of this before and its not in any of my books but google came through for me. I have no idea where I got it but Yahoo I got one!!!

I created a Notebook called “Crystals I Own”. Evernote for Crystal Organization

Once I start working with a crystal and learn its properties its really easy to add all that information right to this now. Evernote makes note taking and organizing easy and its searchable. This is the best way for me. I hope this helps you.

Citrine, my Sunshine Crystal

Citrine, my Sunshine Crystal

Many many years ago I was at an outside vendor farmers market. There was a guy there selling crystals. At that time of my life, I loved crystals but know absolutely nothing about them. I was just starting to learn. They were just pretty and I was drawn to them.

In the middle of his display was a really pretty yellow stone. I remember it was a rather gloomy day outside, maybe even a bit too cool for me. Ben and I were spending the week in our motorhome having a little “chill out” time. I may have been a little depressed.

So I bought this pretty yellow polished stone the guy called a “citrine”. It the bottom crystal in the photo.

Since it was such a gloomy day and because I was a little on the depressed side I decided to try my hand at “Charging and programming” this stone, something I had never done before. So I did. I programmed it to be my “sunshine” stone, to always bring warmth and happiness into my life whenever I needed it.

This stone stayed with me for years, usually in a pocket, sometimes in a little leather bag.

Then one day it was gone.

Since my initial purchase, I had done a bit more reading on crystals and healing and knew that when a stone disappears it is because someone else needed it more. That did not make me particularly happy because I needed it and I missed it. I turned my house upside down, I checked cracks and crevices in the motorhome. I searched all my pockets in all my clothing.

The crystal was gone.

Years later as I was packing all my things to move from California to Oklahoma that crystal showed back up. I found it laying on my bed. It had come home because it knew I needed it once more.

Citrine is still my most favorite stone of all times.

Citrine wire wrapped NecklaceJust recently my Brother in law came across a Citrine point pendant, poorly wrapped in copper that was going to be thrown away. He grabbed it for me, knowing I would know what to do with it and love it. I removed the old wrapping and re-wrapped it in silver. Lately, I have been drawn to wear it.

So a little about Citrine…

  • Citrine is yellow in color making it perfect to work with the Solar Plexus Chakra, which is the chakra of your personal power and energy.
  • It is a stone of imagination and creativity. It carries the energy of good luck.
  • Citrine harnesses the warmth and power of the sun.
  • Natural Citrine is self-cleansing, Natural Citrine is rare and quite expensive so the pieces you pick up for a dollar or two are probably not natural citrine but heat treated Amethyst.  There is nothing wrong with these pieces, they are wonderful. I read in one scientific article that sometimes Amethyst changes to Citrine naturally, I guess if it is hot enough!
  • Citrine is also called the “merchants stone” and is often placed within a cash bag or cash register for abundance. It attracts success. In the top photo, the citrine cluster is one I leave in my gallery/store. I also keep a small point in my cash bag.
  • Citrine is a great stone to have around during family arguments because it repels and clears negative energy and helps bring about peaceful, loving resolution.
