The Chakras

The Chakras

Chakras

I had never heard of chakras until I started practicing Reiki. They sounded so exotic that I knew I needed to delve a little farther into them if I was going to be working with energy healing. The Chakras aren’t really taught in Reiki classes but it did not take me long to discover that the basic hand positions covered and healed the chakras. Now my Reiki practice incorporates the intention that the Chakras are healed and balanced with every Reiki Session I give.

And I do cover the Chakras as well as using a pendulum in my Reiki Classes

What is a Chakra?

Our bodies are not only physical entities but we also have an energetic body which consists of the Aura, the energy field that surrounds us, the Chakras which are spinning orbs of energy and meridians which are like energy veins.

Although there are many Chakras, there are seven major ones that we tend to concentrate most on. They are like a ladder for our life. The bottom rung is our root, where we start on the ground and we climb to the heavens at our crown chakra.

Crystals for Chakra Balancing

These are the crystals I use at home when I am needing some balancing.  Garnet, Carnelian, Citrine, Malachite, Blue Lace Agate, Lapis Lazuli and Amethyst

The chakras are our energy centers, spinning wheels or spheres often likened to a ceiling fan which spin clockwise, that push healing, vital energy to the physical, emotional and spiritual areas they govern.

Maintaining high vibrational, vital energy within our body is so important to becoming healthy and maintaining our health yet it is often overlooked. We tend to concentrate on healing our physical bodies. By working with your energy system you will add another layer to your healing path and it is complementary to working with the healthcare system.

On a Physical level, each chakra oversees the health of specific areas of your body as well as how you interact with your surroundings and other peoples energies.

On a Spiritual/Emotional Level the chakras aid in your life growth and how you handle the world around you.

Balanced chakras have a good flow of energy through them. When the energy becomes blocked, or slow, it becomes unbalanced or out of alignment.  That is when dis-ease sets into the body or mind. Keeping your chakras balanced can help keep dis-ease from settling in. It helps you stay strong to yourself and handle everyday stressors and setbacks with greater ease, allowing you to live a happier, healthier life.

Most energy healing modalities focus on the chakras. As a Reiki Practitioner, I can tell you the hand positions taught are in line with the chakras. The Chakras are the area of the highest concentration of energy within the body which makes them the easiest to share with the outside world. Everyday life occurrences, good or bad, will affect our chakras. They are always changing. Our chakras need to stay spinning, open and balanced for us to have a happy, healthy life. Some things that can affect our chakras are stress, illness, emotions, thoughts.

So let us take a look at each one of them

crown chakraCROWN (7th)

  • Its located a few inches above the head
  • It is the fastest spinning and the highest vibration of all the chakras
  • Associated color is vivid purple or violet
  • Governs spirituality. Connection to the universe, imagination, awareness, optimism, ability to receive thoughts, information, and ideas from spirit
  • Crystals – Amethyst, charoite, sugilite, labradorite, rutilated quartz, selenite
  • If your Crown Chakra is out of balance, blocked or moving slowly it may result in depression, a feeling of disconnect, pessimism and lethargy. You may have nervous system disorders, skin conditions, dementia
  • Aromatherapy Essential Oils – Frankincense, Sandalwood, Melissa, Wintergreen

Brow ChakraBROW OR THIRD EYE (6th)

  • This is the energy system that governs the minds, ideas, thoughts, dreams, psychic abilities.
  • It is where creativity and inspiration are combined.
  • When healthy and balanced, helps to remove negative and selfish attitudes
  • The Third Eye Chakra is the eye of your true or higher self
  • The color is a deep indigo blue. If you can see your chakras, often you will see an eye in the center
  • It is affected by thoughts of the future or the past. Not living in the present
  • Can be affected by a desire to see or the fear of seeing angels, guides, and apparitions
  • Crystals – Lapis Lazuli, Sodalite, Sapphire, Moldavite, Pietersite
  • Out of balance – Headaches and migraines, Mental Illness, Personality disorders, Sinusitis, Eye conditions, Learning disabilities, Feelings of negativity, lack of ambition. Essentially you are disconnected from yourself.
  • Aromatherapy Essential Oils – Sandalwood, Helichrysum, Lemongrass, Rosemary

Throat ChakraTHROAT (5th

  • Center for communication and expression. It is through this chakra that we communicate, either through verbal, body language or telepathy.
  • This governs your ability to be a leader. A clear throat chakra allows you to speak your truth.
  • You are able to ask for your needs to be met
  • It allows us to tell the world how we feel and to express ourselves.
  • When out of balance there will be fears of speaking out, speaking in public or sharing your thoughts. This will weaken and shrink your chakra as well as cause stress
  • Over talking and obsessing in speech is usually due to an overstimulated chakra
  • The color is light blue
  • Crystals –  Blue lace agate, apatite, Turquoise, kyanite, azurite
  • Aromatherapy Essential oils – Lavender, Frankincense, Cilantro, Eucalyptus
  • Physical manifestations of an unbalanced throat chakra can be skin rashes, heart attack, weak or bad back, digestive issues like Crohns or IBS, Fear of speaking your mind, lack of concentration, Attention deficit, Feelings of unease, nervousness, and anxiety

HEART (4th)Heart Chakra

  • This is the center of love and compassion. It is your connection to you and everyone around you.
  • It aids in feeling safe, trusting, sense of adventure, forgiveness.
  • It Governs your commitments to relationships and attachments to other people
  • Fear of giving or being loved will shrink this chakra
  • Relationship addictions or obsessions is indicative of an overstimulated heart chakra
  • This is the center, the bridge between the lower, earthly chakras and the higher spiritual chakras
  • The color is green
  • Crystals are Malachite, aventurine, Rose quartz, Amazonite, Emerald, Jade
  • Unbalanced- Emotionally confused, Unloving, uncaring, dispassionate, Narrow-minded, It may cause heart disease. Governs the Lungs so respiratory conditions may come up, repeated colds, cant get over colds, flu. Early physical signs of aging

Solar PlexusSOLAR PLEXUS (3rd)

  • This is the center of your personal power and regulates your ambition, desire, and emotions.

  • An overstimulated chakra is someone who is very controlling or obsessed with being in control
  • The color of this chakra is yellow
  • My favorite stone to use is citrine- and just like citrine, it is a master cleanser. Some say Citrine helps cleanse other crystals, the solar plexus chakra helps regulate and cleanse other chakras of negativity. Most likely because when you are in touch with your personal power you are more in tune to everything that is happening around you, more able to feel what is happening and to react appropriately in your best and highest good. It is like your own personal internal pendulum
  • Unbalanced – Lack of concentration, Failing memory, Falling asleep during the day, Insomnia, Digestive disorders, Eating disorders

  • It can also manifest as cravings for physical pleasures (food, drink, sex, thrills), addictions, as well as body and appearance obsessions.

Base ChakraBASE or ROOT- (1st)  In some books this is referred to as a root chakra but the root chakra is located under your feet

  • This is the chakra of survival, as well as governing our connection to family and friends. It governs our career, financial stability, your homes, your physical needs and your possessions
  • Some say this is where the resting Kundalini exists.
  • This is where we experience our connection to the earth and our earthly life.
  • When your Base chakra is balanced you are grounded and stable and able to move forward in life.
  • An understimulated chakra will result in feelings of inadequacy, lack, and limitations
  • An overstimulated chakra expresses itself in being a workaholic and overachiever. •
  • Color is red
  • Crystals – Red Jasper, Black Obsidian, Smokey Quartz, Red Calcite, Ruby, Garnet
  • Aromatherapy Essential Oils – Patchouli, Vetiver, Myrrh, Grounding Blend
  • When out of balance you can experience chronic back pain, Sciatica, Varicose veins, Water retention, Constipation or diarrhea, Immune disorders, Feelings of insecurity and phobias, panic attacks.

I think I am an Empath. What do I do, it’s driving me crazy?

I think I am an Empath. What do I do, it’s driving me crazy?

In my Reiki practice, whether I am talking to someone before a session or teaching a class, I often hear “Someone told me I am an empath, and it’s driving me crazy”. How do I stop it or control it?

The definition of an empath is basically someone who feels the emotions of other people, places or things.

Most everyone can sense other folks emotional changes but empaths tend to take it on as their own. They may physically feel the pain, they may actually start crying, they may appear to be moody, are often called over sensitive and because they pick up on so much of other people stuff they tend to stay away from crowds and are considered loners.

Walk your own pathDo you think you are an empath? This article on ReikiRays.com has a great eye opener list of traits to tell if you are. I honestly did not think I was until I fell under the majority of these “symptoms”

Empathy can be seen as a gift or it can be seen as a curse, that choice is yours

It can be a pretty difficult way to live and many empaths tend to think of it as a curse. But it doesn’t have to be, it can actually be a gift. Empaths make wonderful healers and counselors. They can often times sense more clearly what is wrong. They can be compassionate because they can “feel” as their client feels.

But until you learn how to discern between your own emotions and feelings and those of others, the path of an empath can be quite unsettling. You may find yourself taking on others emotions to the point of causing you emotional stress or even physical illness. You may wonder what is wrong with you, why can you not be happy. You may walk into a room and feel overwhelming sadness to a point where you can not enjoy going out. Certain people may make you very uncomfortable, drained and overwhelmed. You are drained by the end of the day.

Does this sound familiar? So let’s talk about a few things you can do.

First, recognize that you are an empath. It’s not going to go away so you need to learn to live with it. Think of it as a gift, not a curse.

When you wake up in the morning, prepare yourself for the day by setting intention through the use of affirmations. Affirmations are short, powerful and positive statements that when repeated daily become part of your subconscious.

  • I am a compassionate, kind person who is respected and well loved
  • I only feel emotions and energy that are mine, and I release of all that does not belong to me
  • I don’t have to fix everything and everyone.
  • The energy that I receive and surrounds me is of the highest good for me.
  • I am protected from all energy that does not belong to me
  • I surround myself with white healing light.
  • I only hear, see, feel, and sense emotional information that is important for me to know and act upon.

Before leaving the house for the day visualize a big long zipper from your feet to the top of your head. Zipper up and lock as if you are zipping into a bag that surrounds you,

Get a Reiki Session. Reiki is a one way flow using divine energy. As an empath, you have probably blocked your energy pathways and Chakras as a defense mechanism. In order to live a happy balanced life your life force energy needs to be able to flow smoothly, without restriction. A Reiki session will unblock these pathways and raise your energetic vibration.

Learn Reiki. If you are in a healing position already, like nurse, counselor, therapist etc, Reiki can be an extra tool for you to help others by focusing on the areas you already know needs work. Empaths make wonderfully healers, Reiki also helps keep your own energetic and physical body in a place of calm and joy.  Empaths make terrific Healers.

Ask your angels to protect you from other people Energy allowing you to know which is your feelings and what are others feelings

Empathy is a gift. Do not shun from it but embrace the fact that you will make a wonderful healer.

Crystals For EmpathsCrystals for Empaths

Carry or wear these crystals. You can also use them in your work or healing space to draw out negative energy and create a loving, compassionate environment. I have tried to choose common, easy to find crystals that any crystal shop will have or you may already own. Remember to cleanse them often so that all the negative energy they absorb will be released, I also suggest placing them out under the full moon every month for a cleansing moon bath.

  • Rose quartz- the beautiful pink, easy to find crystal is the crystal for self love. It will help sooth your heart chakra and bring love to the forefront
  • Black tourmaline- this highly protective stone repels negativity.
  • Amethyst- this beautiful purple stone is connected with the brow (third eye) Chakra as well as the crown chakra. Not only is it a protective stone but it will help you connect to your inner self and spiritual self.
  • Unakite to help keep your emotions in balance

Feel free to leave a comment. I would love  to hear about your experiences and what may have worked for you.

Namaste.

Reiki Drumming-A healing tool

Reiki Drumming-A healing tool

For  several years I had been hearing about Reiki Drumming but I never had a chance to experience it until I attended the 2017 International Reiki Retreat in Sedona AZ. It was on our last day of the retreat that Michael and Authur Baird, the originators of this technique, introduced us to the drum and Reiki Drumming.

I was blown away

Imagine a room full of people, I would guess around 80, in a room filled with Reiki Energy all beating on a drum. You would think it would have been overwhelming, noisy and chaotic but it wasn’t. It was vibrational, centering and balancing.

During our workshop session we split into pairs and we gave each other a 10 minute Reiki Drum session.

One person drummed and the other received. It was quite magical. Magical enough so that both Kate Cook, from Kate’s Reiki Essence, and I had to return to Sedona a day after the retreat ended to buy drums for our own use and Reiki practice.

Since bringing it home I have had several opportunities to use the drum during a Reiki Session with great results.

What is Reiki Drumming.

Reiki Drum

This is my drum. It is plain but it has a beautiful tone and vibration!

Drumming has been used since the beginning of time by Shamans, Medicine Men, Holy people and Healers. Sound is a vibration that carries itself deep into your body.

For Reiki Drumming, the Drum is infused with Reiki Energy prior to the session. The Reiki energy is focused and directed with every beat of the drum. The drum’s sound waves carry the high frequency Reiki Energy into the client’s energy field.

I am in the process of exploring this new technique but what I have experienced so far is that Reiki drumming is:

  • Like having a Reiki Massage on all your internal organs sending vibration deep within the recipient
  • Because of the repetive beats it helps the client become more internally focused and balanced.
  • Drumming can bring your brainwaves into an alpha state usually associated with mindfulness or meditation, which in turn can help reduce a depressive state of mind and increase creativity.
  • Drumming can help break up energetic blocks that may be stopping you from moving forward

Reiki Drumming during a Healing Session

Reiki Drumming is something that I will be incorporating into every one of my sessions, unless the client chooses not to. Since I have discovered this is a wonderful way to relax my client, and focus her on her healing path, each Reiki session will begin with 5-10 minutes of drumming and then I will proceed with a regular Reiki session..

The drum is beaten in a quick rhythm and the sound is focused all around the body, from head to toe. It can be done standing, sitting or during a Reiki Session laying comfortably on the Reiki table. By concentrating on the beat of the drum, it will help center and balance you, bringing you into a deeper state of relaxation which will all you to more openly accept the healing energy.
While receiving Reiki I suggest you focus on the issue you are trying to resolve, whether it is emotional or physical. A huge part of healing is being ready to release whatever it is that is causing your issue. Sometime we may not know what the root cause is but Reiki can and will bring it to your attention, either during the session or in the days that follow. But you must be ready to release it for healing to occur.

Reiki sessions are available in 30 minute or 60 minute increments. Additionally, once a month I hold Healing Nights which enable you to experience Reiki is a non hands-on, but not less effective way, in which I also start with Reiki Drumming. I think the Reiki Drum and the few minutes each participants receive this vibratory technique is probably the favorite of the evening.

If you have attended a healing night and participated in the drum, I would love to hear your thoughts on it.

Start your path of healing today,

Buffalo Drum - Remo 16"

Reiki Drum - Remo
This is the drum I used. It may not be the prettiest, the coolest looking. It doesn’t have a fancy leather skin or a cool native American painting on it, but oh what a sound. I got to pick out mine in person and had all those wonderful choices. I really wanted a painted head but once I heard the deep vibration of this drum I knew it was the one I wanted.

I am a warrior. I am a goddess

I am a warrior. I am a goddess

 I am a warrior, I am a goddess

That seems to be my mantra throughout this entire trip. If you are just tuning in for the first time I am on a 20 day vacation, by myself, in Southern California. I have hooked up with friends and family all along the way which has been wonderful but most of the traveling has been solo, just me, all by myself.

Yesterday completed the very last nail-biting drive of the trip when I drove from Huntington Beach California to Nipoma in Central California. That trip required driving the LA Freeway system.

Ask the universeThe night before I sat down with my friend Loretta and we looked at the trip on the computer. No problem, I thought, it’s straight up the 405 until I hit the 101 and then smooth sailing. I knew the 405 would be slow with way too much traffic so I chose to leave around 9:30 am hoping to get the “just after rush hour and just before lunch” traffic which would be a tad slower. I was ready to drive slow and easy, singing country songs and munching on granola.

But my GPS app, Waze, had other ideas and it took me off the 405 to the 605.

When Amy, the voice of my GPS, started telling me the 605 turn off was up ahead I debated whether to follow my planned route or this new route. In my life I try to follow the path the universe puts out for me because I knew it, and my angels had my back. For this reason I chose to follow Amy and took the unfamiliar path.

Traffic opened up before me. Yeah Universe! I was proud of myself for listening and following and I knew that for what ever reason I was exactly where I was supposed to be.

It’s not to bad here but slow enough to take a picture!

Then she put me on another Freeway, and then another, and I saw the city scape of LA looming ahead and began to have doubts. Traffic started to slow down. The Freeway became smaller, the roads older.

I asked the Universe “What’s up with this” and the answer was “face my fears”. My response was “we could have saved that for later! “

But I was where I was and there was no turning back so I kept driving forward trusting in my GPS, my angels and the universe.

By now I was on  the 101, the Freeway that I needed to be on to follow the coast, but I was in the heart of LA and the Hollywood sign was in sight. And then Amy wanted me to get off the freeway.

AH…..WHAT? NO FRIGGIN WAY UNIVERSE.

Now I had a decision to make. Follow the new path laid out for me or follow the path I knew would take me to my destination.

We have those decisions as well to make everyday in our lives. I saw the road before me that I knew would eventually get me to where I needed to be and a suggested path that was unfamiliar, scary but would get me there a bit sooner.

I chose the easier path, the path I was already on.

Although the universe will always direct you to your destination, sometimes we have to make the decision to follow our own guidance.

And here is another thought on this situation…

Because I went into this drive with the fear of driving the LA traffic, that is what I was focused on and I attracted exactly what I was putting so much energy into, LA traffic.

Eventually I drove out of LA, out of Hollywood, the roadway opened up and I made it to my destination. As I did so I knew I could do anything I set my mind on, that I was strong, I am a warrior, I am a goddess!

I got this!

And you can too!!

Reiki At Work – 7 tips for a more calm and peaceful work environment

Reiki At Work – 7 tips for a more calm and peaceful work environment

One of the amazing sessions we had at the 2017 Reiki Retreat in Sedona was about using Reiki in the workplace. It is easy to use Reiki at work to create a more peaceful, less stressful environment. I have a great job now (retired and enjoying making Pottery and giving Reiki) but I wish I had Reiki when I was stuck in a little cubicle surrounded by my co-workers who weren’t always the most positive influence. When I worked in an office environment my day was often stressful and sometimes boring and mindless. The negativity and gossip eventually drove me out of that environment into a business that my husband and I ran for the next 15 years. Then it was all about making payroll, putting out fires, never getting a lunch break and taking our work home with us. What I did not have was Reiki. This is my story but I bet your would have some similarities. During a Reiki retreat session entitled “Reiki for Wellness: Clinical and Corporate Setting”, presenters Dr. Robin Fuerst and Bryce Goebel shared some amazing (and simple) things that we can do in our work space to reduce our stress and anxiety. Their great presentation shared much more than what I am sharing here but I thought you might benefit from learning some easy Reiki tricks to create a better overall working environment.
  • Take a 5 minute Reiki Break every hour. Place your hands on your legs, clear your mind and just let Reiki Flow for a short 5 minutes can take the edge off your day and help keep you in a calm and loving place.
  • At the beginning of your day or shift, Reiki your space and all the equipment you will be using that day. Send Reiki to your computer, keyboard, desk, chair, equipment, etc. Send Reiki to your space, whether it’s a small cubicle or a large warehouse fill it with loving, peaceful energy. If you have symbols send the Power symbol to the ceiling, floor and all walls. This helps create a sacred space for you.
  • Send Reiki ahead to any meetings or confrontations you might be involved in with the intention that it be for the greatest and highest good for all. Can you imagine the power in this especially if you are in a service based industry!
  • Reiki your daily tasks for the greatest and highest good for all.
  • Reiki your food and water. This is a habit I am trying to form for every meal I eat But it should hold true in your workplace as well when we tend to make unhealthy choices
  • Give your co-workers mini Reiki sessions. One way to create a more pleasant working environment is to help elevate stress and strain from your co-workers. When you see someone stressed out ask permission to send Reiki to them for just a few minutes.
  • Remember the Reiki Principles – Just for today I will not worry. Just for today I will not be angry. Just for today I will be grateful. Just for today I will do my work honestly and with integrity. Just for today I will be kind to every living thing.
Reiki is a divine healing energy that we all can tap into and use for our own personal healing as well as healing others on a physical, emotional and spiritual level. Everyone can tap into this energy for their own use through the help of a Reiki Master Teacher. If you are currently not empowered with Reiki I do hold Reiki classes. Won’t you join me?

Retreat, unwind and Reiki

Retreat, unwind and Reiki

As I write this article I am sitting on a hotel bed in Cottonwood Arizona. In the queen bed next to me is my dear Reiki buddy Kate Cook. Yesterday was the final day of the 2017 International Reiki Retreat, a 3 1/2 day retreat at the amazing Mago Retreat in Sedona Arizona. We are in Cottonwood because we decided that after the Retreat we needed a few days to play in Sedona and Cottonwood before returning to the real world.

Sedona is an amazing town, it’s one of my favorite towns to come and visit. There have been times when I have said I would love to live in Sedona but the truth is I prefer to come and visit. When you live somewhere you always have tomorrow to do something and sometimes tomorrow never comes. I don’t mean that in a negative way at all, but when you live somewhere your day to day life tends to get in the way of the stuff that makes vacation so exciting.

Sedona az

The moment you see Sedona for the first time

The Retreat was amazing and I will be doing some brain dumping but for right now I thought I would just share some pictures.

Mago retreat

The accommodations at the Mago Retreat

The retreat was held at the Mago Retreat. Our room, which consisted of two queen beds was very comfortable. Since the whole idea of a retreat is to unplug from the world the room had no TV or coffee pot (yikes). Strangely enough we did not miss the TV. The evenings were spent reading and doing self reiki and meditation. The coffee however was a problem (Haha) but they had coffee in the dining hall so we got our caffeine fix for the day.

The first full day we did some exploring and the grounds were so beautiful. We walked everywhere and there was a lot of uneven pathways so we took our time.

The Healing Gardens were simply beautiful. A large pool of water with mediations areas all over the place. Tranquil is the best way to describe it.

The Healing Garden at Mago Retreat

Kate sitting quietly at the Healing Garden

Walking a little further we came across this beautiful waterfall and stream.

Waterfall at Mago

The very first day as we were walking to the dining hall the sunrise was beautiful. It was still cool out with a slight breeze. A beautiful morning.

One thing I was worried about was food. The resorts website said it was Pesco Vegetarian. Pesco means fish and I don’t eat fish. I was immensely surprised at our first meal. The buffet table was filled with cheese tamales, shrimp, veggies, and all kinds of yummy stuff. The rest of the meals did not disappoint, so Kudos to the Mago Retreat Chef. Well done!  Unfortunately I did not get a picture of the first nights dinner but I did manage to grab one from night two! Before I left I shared that I was concerned about what I would eat and that I was sure that the only thing I would find would be watermelon. Although they had watermelon and it was super sweet there were lots of other wonderful things to delight my palette.

Dinner was excellent even if it was Pesco Vegetarian!

Funny thing though…. they did not serve dessert. By day two I was craving sweet so I bought some organic dark chocolate (at $5 a bar, Holy Moly) from their gift shop. That night at dinner, as we were sitting outside eating a whisper started to spread that “they had cake”. We all rushed inside to grab our share of a decadent coffee flavored cake. It was so funny to hear “they have cake” being the main focus of conversations the rest of the evening. I guess I wasn’t the only one missing sweets!

If you ever need to do a complete unwind I recommend this Resort.
