Labradorite – The stone of transformation

Labradorite – The stone of transformation

The shimmering beautiful Labradorite stone seems to have flooded the US in the last past year, and rightly so. This beautiful stone, first discovered in Labrador Canada in 1770 by missionaries, where it gets its name, has amazing colors and “flash” that draw the eye.

Labradorite, also known as spectrolite or labrodite, is a member of the Feldspar Family with a Mohs Hardness of 6. Although it can be found in Newfoundland, India, Russia, Mexico, Finland, and the USA, most of today’s stone comes from Madagascar.

Labradorite appears as a grey stone but if cut correctly, the color changing “flash”, known as labradorescence , can result in iridescent flashes of brilliant blue, gold, green, or coppery red, reminiscent of the colors of a peacock. The shimmering, optical  effect is known as the “ Schiller” effect. The colors do not exist in the stone but are result of “light play”. Therefore labradorites beauty is best seen when the stone is moved or rotated within a light source. This stone makes for amazing jewelry since we are usually always in motion, it truly catches the eye

Labradorite has been used by shamans, and healers when seeking divine knowledge. The Eskimo Intuit people claim that it fell from the frozen fire of the Aurora Borealis and opened the Northern Lights.

As a metaphysical, healing stone Labradorite is known as the “Bringer of Light”, a Stone of Transformation and a stone of Magic. I often wear a Labradorite necklace reminding me that the world is a magickal place.

It’s a powerful protector, protecting against negativity and misfortune by deflecting energy away from your aura. It helps us connect to universal energies, helps us activate our psychic abilities, opens our intuitive nature. As a protective stone it works best at deflecting negative energies away from our Aura and places a protective barrier between your energy system and others. It also helps prevent subtle energy leaks. It allows for drawing  subconscious thoughts to the surface as well as it helps with bringing up past memories that have been forgotten so you can release them. An excellent stone for relieving anxiety and stress, it also helps with removing fears and insecurities, allowing for a sense of peace, calm and balance in one’s life. Labradorite is a wonderful stone to energize your imagination and creativity. Can be used as an elixir to dispel negativity and boost your well being

Labradorite falls under the signs of Sagittarius, Scorpio and Leo. It works well on the Throat, Third Eye and Crown Chakras.

As for physical healing it is said that Labradorite works with Lung and Respiratory problems including  colds, and bronchitis. It helps with rheumatism, gout, and arthritis and resulting pain. It supports the Metabolism, digestion and Blood pressure. It can treat disorders of the eyes. Since it is associated with the moon it can help with hormones, PMS symptoms, pain and heavy menstruation. It can also help with detoxifying effects when trying to quit smoking, drugs or alcohol

Selenite – the Moon Crystal

Selenite – the Moon Crystal

Several weeks ago  i went into a furniture store and they had the most amazing, huge selenite (Satin Spar) wand for sale. It was a most unlikely thing to find in this store. Needless to say this milky white gem came home with me.

Selenite is a very soft stone with a Mohs hardness of 2 so its not a very durable stone, and is easily scratched or damaged however its is one every energy healer should have in her tool box. As a thermal conductor it is often warmer to the touch.

Selenite is a crystalized form of the mineral gypsum and its very abundant, mostly found in Australia, Greece, Mexico and the USA. Because of its soft nature it is often used to bring light into home decor. The Basilica Santa Sabina in Rome, has white window panes made entirely from Selenite. Because of its soft nature and transparent beauty you can readily find Selenite carved into hearts, wands, and globes. It is also available as towers as a candle holder or a light.  In Chihuahua, Mexico the “Cave of the Crystals” located in the Naica Mines, houses some of the largest Selenite crystal formations. One is over 39 feet and weights over 55 tons.

Selenite is a cleansing stone and is often used to cleanse other stones. In my case, the selenite wand I spoke about has been placed in my crystal cabinet to keep all my other stones cleansed and ready to use. It is often stated that Selenite never needs cleansing itself but i personally like to cleanse it every once in awhile just to keep it vibrant. Since it is a soft stone never put this one in water to cleanse. My prefered method is a full moon cleansing. It is said that it is a strong enough to clean even crystal quartz.

Its an angelic stone and with it you can call upon the angels for protection. Placed around all corners of your home, Selenite can protect your home and create a place of calm and peace. In my pottery studio i have used Selenite to grid the space and people all the time tell me what a calm, nurturing space it is.

When you are wanting to make a connection to the spiritual realm, like angels, guides, ancestors  and our higher self, place selenite all around you to assist. Since Selenite is the color of the moon, and its named after Selene, the goddess lf the moon, it will help you tap into moon energy. Its energy is that of feminine goddess energy.

Since it is a cleansing stone, Selenite can be used to cleanse your energy chakras as well as you aura. Wands made of Selenite are often used in Magic or to direct energy.

Other healing properties of this shimmering, high vibrational stone are: connecting to the crown or higher crown chakras, mental awareness, intuition. Its useful for meditation and scrying.

Lunar Calendar, Solar Calendar and the Lunisolar Calendar. What are they?

Lunar Calendar, Solar Calendar and the Lunisolar Calendar. What are they?

Charting the passage of time is something we, as humans, need to do. Over the eons, the stars, sun and moon have been the steadfast way of doing just that.

The glowing orb in the nighttime sky, our one and only moon, is one way the ancestors used to gauge time and some religions still use it for the same reason. The Lunar calendar is set around the phases of the moon. Our current, standardized and accepted Calendar is a solar Calendar and its basis is how the earth revolves around the sun.

A Lunar month, known as a Synodic Month or Lunation, takes 29.5 Gregorian days to complete 12 lunar cycles. A synodic month is either 29 or 30 days which make a lunar year 11 days shorter than a solar year. The first day of a lunar year varies by what calendar you are using. A synodic month is a complete moon cycle. There are 12.37 synodic months .

It is said that the Sumerians were the first people to base their year on the moon phases. Their month started on the first day of a visible new moon. They did have to adjust their calendar, which is called intercalation, when it was deemed that the months appeared to be off. Extra days would be added to bring the calendar into alignment. A good example would be our leap year, an extra day added. For the lunar calendar an entire month would sometimes have to be added to keep with the seasons. This is to make up for the fraction of a month (12.37 synodic months).

Back around 380 BC they had to establish rules were regarding the intercalation inclusions which helped standardize the calendar, 7 months were added over a19-year period, which means 7 of the years within that 19 year span has 13 months!

Several religions use a lunar calendar such as the Jewish faith, Hindus, Babylonians, and Greeks. Interestingly, for the Islams, Muhammad forbade the addition of the 13 month so it was adjusted to be 354 days.

A solar calendar revolves around the seasons and the position of the sun relative to the stars.
Our current accepted worldwide calendar is a solar calendar. It is also known as a Gregorian Calendar. There are also “tropical Solar calendars” which have to do with where the sun and the equinox cross. The Gregorian Calendar is a Tropical Solar calendar as is the Bengali Calendar, the Iranian Calendar and the Indian National Calendar.

A solar calendar is based on how long it takes for the earth to revolve around the sun which is generally 365 1/4 days. Adding an additional day every four year, leap year, brings it all back into balance. It was the Egyptians that first developed the solar calendar but they did not account For that 1/4 day and eventually their calendar became wrong and dissolved. In 237 BC an extra day every four years was added by Ptolemy III Euergetes of Egypt in the Decree of Canopus.

There are a slew of cultures that use a Lunisolar calendar which are solar calendars which dates indicate the moon phases. A LuniSolar calendar may also indicate the season if it is a Tropical Calendar. The Lunisolar calendar goes a little more in depth adding moon, star placement and sun position as well as seasons. Some of the traditions that use a Lunisolar calendar are Hebrew, Jain, Buddhist, Hindu, Kurdish, Burmese, Chinese, Japanese, Tibetan, Vietnamese, Mongolian, Korean,Hellenic, Coligny and Babylonian.

There are several websites like The Creators Calendar that state that God’s calendar is a Lunar Solar Calendar based on Creation. So today, on our Gregorian Solar Calendar, is October 31, 2018, on a Lunar Solar Calendar it is the 7th day of the 8th month with tomorrow being the Sabbath.

One of the main differences between a Lunar and Solar calendar is of course, the orbital celestial body that it is based on, with the Lunar Calendar based on the moon and the Solar is based on the sun. . The Lunar Month starts at the New Moon, the Solar Calendar measures time it takes for the Earth to move around the sun. Both calendars have to make adjustments by adding days. The Lunar Calendar is shorter than a Solar Calendar by 5 days. A Lunar-Solar Calendar is a hybrid of both the Solar and the Lunar calendar and tries to reconcile the months and years but that can be a challenge. The Lunisolar calendar is what is considered to be God’s Calendar and its based on the fact that every 19 years the Sun and Moon come back to the same positions relative to each other.

Take a Reiki Shower, start (or end) the day clean, physically and energetically

Take a Reiki Shower, start (or end) the day clean, physically and energetically

I don’t remember when I first read about or learned about taking a Reiki shower but it’s something that I now have incorporated into my Reiki life and do every morning.

And what a wonderful way to start the day.

I am a morning showerer, but many of you might be evening showerers. What a great way to end the day.

Or maybe you prefer a bath….. no problem, got ya covered.

While we are cleaning away the dust and dirt from the last 24 hours we can also wash away the energetic dust and dirt we accumulated, the worry, the stress, the anger and even other people’s energy that has attached to us.

Showering for me is like my morning prayers and it’s that few quiet moments when I think of all the things I am grateful for.

Here is how to create a Reiki Shower and Sacred space

Turn on the water and give a few minutes of Reiki to the shower head (if you are running a bath, send Reiki to the spout). I draw the symbols I am attuned to, however if you are Level 1 just let Reiki flow. The intention set here is that the water flowing from the shower head or spout now be filled with Reiki Energy. Envision white light filling the bathroom and it now becomes a sacred and healing space.

When you step into the shower stream (or the bath water) that is now full of Reiki energy, naked and fully exposed (nothing is hidden from creator) begin your prayers for the day.

Everyone prays differently so I am not going to go into much detail but it is during that time that I thank Creator for all that I have been blessed with, I thank my angels for their help the day before. I ask that all negative energy that no longer serves my highest purpose be washed down the drain where Mother Earth (Gaia) will cleanse and neutralize it. I also ask that all my energy, that I may have left behind, be returned to me.

I also set my intentions for the day and asked that Reiki be with me for the next 24 hours.

There is something very magical, uplifting, empowering and joyful about standing fully exposed in front of the creator while “yesterday” is being washed away. Everyday you start out spiritually and energetically cleansed.

Have a beautiful day.

Taking USUI Levels 1 and 2 classes together.

Taking USUI Levels 1 and 2 classes together.

As a Reiki Teacher I always excited when a new person approaches me wanting to learn Reiki. Somehow the call to Reiki was extended to them and they heard the call and enrolled in class.

I offer Levels 1 and 2 on consecutive Saturdays. Many Reiki Master/Teachers don’t feel they should be taught so close together but my school of training (ICRT) teaches that it is benefittal and empowering to teach the two classes close to each other. In fact, Dr Usui taught the complete system in one day and even Mrs Takata would combine the levels.

Personally, when I started I took Level 1 but felt a bit incomplete. I was unsure what to do with my reiki and I did not really practice it.  I waited quite a while for Level 2 to become available to me and readily enrolled. Learning the symbols and being attuned to that level gave me the needed confidence to start “Practicing” Reiki.

Learn more about my upcoming Reiki Classes

Can I just take Level 1?

Absolutely you can!

Level 1 places the Reiki Energy within your energetic body for your use any time you need it. It’s there, it’s yours to use. Not only is Reiki installed during a Level 1 Class but you are taught how to use it for physical healing of yourself and others. Reiki at Level 1 is a powerful, game changing energy…if you use it!

Does that mean you have to use it on other?

Nope, it doesn’t.

Here are some ideas for you for using and “practicing” Reiki.

  • give yourself daily Reiki when you first wake up in the morning,
  • Reiki yourself before falling asleep to aid in a restful night.
  • Reiki your car for a safe journey.
  • Reiki your bank statement or check book for abundance
  • Reiki your cat or dog,
  • Hold your potted plant in your hands and give it Reiki.
  • Send Reiki to your food to cleanse and purify.
  • Reiki your drinking water
  • Going on a plane? Touch the plane before entering and give it Reiki (I do this every time,)
  • Send Reiki to your shower head for a Reiki shower
  • Reiki your medications
  • Intend for Reiki to flow when you are bandaging the booboo knee of your child
  • When you are having a stressful moment place your hands on your thighs and give yourself Reiki. This is great when sitting at the doctor or dentist office.

Get the picture! Reiki everything you do and see the results.

What do I get with Level 2

With Level 2 we start working with the emotional body.

With second degree you receive three sacred symbols you can start using right away. These symbols help focus your intention and strengthen your Reiki

The Power Symbol- The Power Symbol is a wonderful tool you can use for most anything to add more strength and intention to what ever you are doing.

  • Use the Power symbol to start and end a Reiki Session, like a light switch to turn it off and on
  • Draw the symbol on you palms to start the energy flowing.
  • Draw over Crystals and give them Reiki to cleanse them.
  • If you are working with a specific area of the body, drawing the symbol over it will focus the energy on it
  • Use it to sandwich other sacred symbols to increase their power
  • Draw the Power symbol on all walls as well as ceiling and floor of a room to cleanse it or prepare it for healing
  • Protect yourself from unwanted or negative energies by drawing the symbol in front of you and stepping into it

The Emotional Symbol- this symbol can be used to help anything that may be emotionally based

  • Since many illnesses are emotionally based, use this symbol in healing sessions to get to the core of the problem
  • Use it to help lose weight. Not every circumstance is the same but many of us put on weigh due to an emotional issue
  • It is powerful when trying to kick an addiction or a bad habit
  • Lost something? The Emotional symbol can come to your rescue
  • I almost forget, the Emotional/Mental Symbol can help you remember something
  • Used during study time, it can help with retaining and remembering
  • Use combined with long distance symbol to heal past emotional and mental traumas
  • Love affirmations? Add more punch to them by saying the Symbols Mantra (name) 3 x’s before saying your affirmations or draw the symbol over them if they are written
  • When charging crystals and grids with a specific goal, use this symbol to up the emotional vibration.

The Long distance symbol bridges time and space and knows no boundaries. It’s a hard one to memorize and although I do suggest memorizing it (Use the Emotional symbol to help) it’s not the end of the world if you don’t. When I first started, I would tape a picture of it in front of me when I needed to use it. Just saying the name three times will evoke it…remember it’s all about intent!

  • Send Reiki to a friend for healing. They can be in the next room or the next country
  • Send Reiki to your own past to heal past traumas. It won’t change the past but it can help heal the emotions around it unblocking stuck energy
  • Going to the dentist? Have an important meeting coming up? Planning a trip? Whatever the future holds for you send Reiki to it by using this symbol. Of course Reiki will only work for the highest and greatest good so you can’t use it to change someone
  • Taking a trip? Whether by car, bus, train, boat or plane send Reiki to the path ahead of you for safe travels and calm

Last bits of advice

Reiki will not change someone. Everyone has free will and makes their own choices so don’t bother sending Reiki to someone to stop an addiction. But you can send Reiki to them to help heal the emotion around their addiction. This was a hard lesson for me to learn but I learned it. We are all on this planet to live our own lives and learn our own lessons.

Not everyone wants to heal . Some people identify with their illness and it gives them identity. Even if they “say” they want to be healed they may unconsciously block the energy. Which leads to the next bit of advice…

Expect no specific outcome Reiki will work for the highest and greatest good and may be working on a level that is completely different than what you and your client are wanting. For example, that back pain they are experiencing may be caused by past event where they experienced a sense of worthlessness and that emotion settled in the back. Reiki will work hardest to heal that past trauma before the physical pain can be removed . With that said….

Step out of Reiki’s way. Allow Reiki to work in its own time and space by not trying to control everything. We can give intention and we can add focus but ultimately Reiki is the Healer, not us and we need to allow it to work. Our egos and our expectations can actually stifle the flow of Reiki so “Let it go and let Reiki”.

I hope that this helps shed a bit more light on the first two levels of Reiki. If you have any further questions feel free to leave a comment. And also feel free to share!

Namaste and Blessings
